Native Plants Highlighted on Staff Tour

A group of our Field Supervisors and Landscape Architects recently took a day to visit native plant nurseries and two of our recent projects at Longwood Gardens and Mount Cuba Center. At the first tour, we went to Octoraro Native Plant Nursery’s new London Grove Township location to learn about their upgraded propagation facility, increased production capacity, and available varieties of native woody conservation plants. Octoraro is a wholesale native plant nursery that works closely with LandStudies to grow the native plants we use in many of our projects. Learn more about Octoraro here.

The second stop was at Longwood Gardens, where we learned more about the sustainable landscapes that LandStudies has installed and has been maintaining for this world-renowned garden. We were particularly excited to see the progress of the Longwood Reimagined project and the native grass meadow demonstration plots. LandStudies has been working with Longwood’s researchers to develop the best planting bed and seed mix to line the new walkways. Learn more about Longwood here.

Mt. Cuba Center

Our next stop was Mt. Cuba Center in Hockessin DE, another botanical garden that is committed to conservation native plants and their habitats. LandStudies recently completed the installation of the native plant landscape associated with the new visitors center and parking area (pictured here). Learn more about the Mt. Cuba Center here.

The final stop (pictured above) was to visit our long-time partners at North Creek Nurseries in Landenburg, to tour their fabulous demonstration gardens. North Creek Nurseries is a wholesale nursery that specializes in sustainable propagation of plants for storm water management, soil stabilization, landscape restoration, and habitat establishment. Learn more about North Creek here.
