The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay Recognizes LandStudies, Inc. as a Businesses For The Bay Founding Gold Member
(Annapolis, MD – June 6, 2017) – The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay recognizes LandStudies, Inc. as a Businesses for the Bay Founding Gold Member. LandStudies renewed their membership with a growing partnership of large and small businesses in the Chesapeake Bay watershed that are undertaking voluntary actions to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed, rivers, and streams.
The Businesses for the Bay membership association provides a network for its Members to share strategies and successes with other businesses and governmental and non-profit Networking Partners, as well as opportunities to engage employees in environmental efforts, and receive recognition for the valuable role each Member is taking to help improve the environment. As a Founding Gold Member, the Alliance recognizes LandStudies for its commitment to Chesapeake Bay protection and restoration.
LandStudies, Inc., a certified Woman Owned Business, was founded in 1989 on the belief that understanding and working with natural systems, instead of artificially controlling them, provides consistently superior, more stable, and longer lasting results.
Their Businesses for the Bay program is strongly based on engaging the community and donating to non-profits for specific, on the ground, quantifiable efforts. They provide environmental education for employees and the public, including participating on the Chesapeake Bay Career Panel for Penn State University and coaching the Junior Envirothon teams from the local Ephrata Area School District. In 2016, they participated in 17 environmental education events! They also participate in and coordinate volunteer clean-ups and planting days throughout the year. For example, the LandStudies team volunteered with the Lititz Run Watershed Alliance Clean-up Day in early spring 2016. In just 12 months, they volunteered with, helped coordinate, and promoted 4 volunteer clean-ups and planting events.
The LandStudies team created a 1,285 linear feet nature trail behind their Lititz, Pennsylvania office; it was originally built for a client, but all LandStudies employees are encouraged to get outside and enjoy the trail.
Supporting local non-profits, both financially and with staff time, is a cornerstone part of LandStudies’ mission. They donate plants to organizations in need for local planting efforts and volunteer with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay’s Pennsylvania Restoring the Environment and Developing Youth (READY) program. They also volunteer staff time for over 15 local committees and associations, including the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay (as a Board Member), Chesapeake Conservation Landscape Council (as a Board Member), Chiques Creek Watershed Alliance, Cocalico Creek Watershed Association, Lancaster County Conservancy, Lancaster County Youth Conservation School, the Lititz Flood Control Committee, Lititz Run Watershed Alliance, and the Pennsylvania Riparian Buffer Advisory Committee.
Kelly Gutshall, LandStudies, Inc. President, noted, “LandStudies is a B4B business because our staff and clientele recognize the value of the Chesapeake Bay and what’s at stake if we don’t protect it. Through our innovative site design and construction projects, we balance stewardship with practicality, all the while promoting the Bay and the work of the Alliance. We are excited to continue this collaboration.”
Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay Business Partnerships Manager, Corinne Stephens, stated, “Through the Alliance’s Businesses for the Bay membership association, we help businesses to have a positive impact on Chesapeake Bay restoration, to expand their own sustainability programs, and to be recognized for their environmental successes.”
