Public Hearing – PA DEP Nutrient Credit Trading Program
February 5, 2018 @ 9:00 am
FreeThe PA Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee is holding a public hearing on the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Nutrient Credit Trading program. This hearing is free and open to the general public.
Federal requirements limit the state of Pennsylvania to a maximum amount of phosphorous and nitrogen that is discharged into the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. This program provides a cost-effective way for wastewater treatment plants and industries to meet their pollution control requirements for nitrogen and phosphorous by purchasing “credits” from other facilities or non-point sources that are doing more than required.
This hearing will provide an overview of the Nutrient Credit Trading program and how it is affecting the sewage treatment industry, local governments, and agricultural non-point source stakeholders. Recommendations on how to improve the program will be presented in front of the Committee.
