Remarks of Mark Gutshall at Brubaker Run Floodplain Restoration Commencement Ceremony

Remarks of Mark Gutshall, Founder and Vice President of LandStudies, Inc.:

I would like to thank everyone who came out for the Lime Spring Square – Brubaker Run Floodplain Restoration Commencement Ceremony on April 20, 2017. This project, which will restore more than 4,000 linear feet of floodplain along Brubaker Run in East Hempfield Township, wouldn’t be possible without the vision of Oak Tree Development Group, the Township, BR Kreider & Son, RGS Associates, McNees Wallace & Nurick, Wohlsen Construction, and other partners. This is truly a collaborative effort.

Looking beyond traditional stormwater management is what this project is all about. Instead of taking up acres of space with 12 stormwater detention basins, Oak Tree Development Group gains an additional 8 acres in which to build on. Visitors to the shopping center will see a beautiful, natural floodplain and new park for recreation. That’s a win for all!

At LandStudies, we believe in the Economic Ecology approach, where developers, municipal governments, and the community benefit alongside the environment. The Brubaker Run floodplain restoration project shows how people with different end goals can work together to achieve something greater and more beneficial than they could do on their own. I am eager to see how this project unfolds.
