Lancaster Water Week 2018

Lancaster Water Week 2018 is the second annual event of its kind in Lancaster highlighting the importance of clean and abundant water in a fun, family-friendly festival-like atmosphere. Hosted by the Lancaster County Conservancy, the event runs from June 1st to 9th with events across Lancaster County.

Lancaster County has 1,500 miles of streams, nearly half of which are polluted. The Lancaster County Conservancy created Lancaster Water Week to celebrate the unique waterways of Lancaster County, to educate the public about the challenges and opportunities, and to encourage people to take action in their watersheds and communities.

Last year’s inaugural Lancaster Water Week was a huge success, with participants coming from all over the county and beyond. One of the showcased projects in 2017 was the award-winning floodplain restoration project at Big Spring Run, which LandStudies provided the design, construction, and landscaping services for.

For the second year, LandStudies is a proud sponsor of this celebration which will have events and activities including bike rides, hikes, a canoe/kayak trip, a golf tournament, tours, a movie night, educational programs, a tree planting and native plant sale, a trash pickup, a picnic, and a festival with food, beer, art, and music. To learn more about these events, visit www.lancasterwaterweek.org.

This year the Lititz Run will be showcased with its very own event on June 2nd, called “A Day on Lititz Run”. LandStudies will be giving mini-tours and educational sessions of the floodplain restoration project at Rock Lititz to showcase the beautiful state-of-the-art best management practice (BMP) project that includes floodplain restoration, aquifer recharge, sediment load reduction, and aquatic vegetation plantings on the Rock Lititz campus. You can learn more about the work that LandStudies did to restore and enhance the floodplain on-site here.

Other local events for “A Day on Lititz Run” include fly fishing demos, native planting instructions, macro-invertebrate stream studies, tours of the Lititz wastewater treatment plant and trout hatchery, and presentations about beekeeping and local birds. More information about these events can be found here.

We are looking forward to Lancaster Water Week 2018 and hope to see you at the many events and activities supporting clean water in Lancaster County and the Commonwealth!
