Employee Spotlight: Matt Schavnis

Today marks LandStudies’ Field Operations Supervisor, Matt Schavnis’ 9-year anniversary with LandStudies! He is responsible for project management, including the oversight of crews and subcontractors, as well as communicating with clients to ensure our work meets their expectations.

 

His professional background includes construction management, landscape installation and maintenance, ecosystem restoration, wildlife and fisheries surveys, equipment operation and maintenance, invasive plant control, and pesticide application.

 

Matt has worked on a variety of projects for LandStudies, including Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) riparian buffer planting and maintenance projects in eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware; Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Natural Areas maintenance projects; City of Lancaster Green Infrastructure planting projects; Shoppes at Belmont Stormwater Facilities erosion and sediment control; Valley Forge Park asbestos site restoration; Butterfly Acres invasive plant maintenance;        Landis Homes erosion and sediment control and tree plantings; native wild flower and warm season grass meadows installations in Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, and New Jersey; and a wetland mitigation for a runway extension at the Philadelphia International Airport, among many others.

 

Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife & Fisheries Science from Penn State University. He is a Certified Pesticide Applicator, a Certified Landscape Technician through the PA Landscape and Nursery Association (PLNA), and has received the Maryland Biological Stream Survey Certification and the Occupational Safety and Health Organization (OSHA) 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.

 

Matt lives just outside of Landisville with his wife, Kelly, 5-year-old son Thomas, 1-year-old son Andrew, and dog named Bailey. He is a self-proclaimed diehard Eagles, Phillies, and Penn State Nittany Lions fan. He enjoys spending time outdoors – hunting, fishing and hiking – especially at his cabin in Elk County. In fact, Matt spent two summers working as a fishing guide in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and Quetico, Canada!
