Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional (CBLP) Level I Trainer Certification

Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional (CBLP) Program

LandStudies field operations foreman, Nick Myers, recently obtained his Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional (CBLP) Level I Certification and his CBLP Trainer Certification. The CBLP Certification is a voluntary credential system for professionals who design, install, and maintain sustainable landscapes in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia.

The Level I Certification requires an intensive 2-day course combining classroom learning with a field-based maintenance practicum. Following the course, candidates are required to pass the Level 1 Certification Exam. The Certification is based on a core set of standards in sustainable landscaping with a focus on stormwater retrofit best practices and conservation landscaping with native plants. The goal of the program is to provide consistent training for sustainable landscape professionals.

This new program was created in 2016 in response to a recent increase in demand for small-scale practices within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Nick’s certification equips him with the knowledge to use best practices that address the needs of meeting state and local pollutant reduction goals. Nick’s new credential makes him an even more valuable asset to our team of professional staff.

In addition to the Level I Certification, Nick completed additional training that also certifies him to be a CBLP Trainer. Only a small percentage of CBLPs are now also CBLP Trainers (CBLP-T).

Level 1 Training Courses are offered throughout the region in early 2018. Nick and fellow CBLP-T classmate, Kristen Kyler of Penn State Ag & Environmental Center, will be instructing the 2-day class in Lancaster, PA on January 25-26 2018. You can register for courses here.

Congratulations Nick!
